Chiropractic Manipulation
Chiropractic Manipulation consists of gently moving the involved joint into the direction that it may be restricted. It may involve the application of a short, quick movement in that direction. The advantages of Chiropractic Manipulation are: increased range of motion, decreased pain, and increased blood flow and nutrients to a joint; this in turn can slow down the process of degenerative joint disease.
Throughout their years of practice, Drs. Okins and Williams have studied numerous Chiropractic Techniques. Depending on the individual's condition, they can assess and prescribe a program best suited for optimal recovers. Included among these techniques are: Diversified; Activator; HIO and Logan Basic.
Active Release Techniques (ART)
ART treatment is a hands-on procedure that allows the Chiropractor to diagnose and treat soft tissue injuries related to muscle, tendon, fascia, and nerves. Specific injuries include: repetitive strains, adhesions, tissue hypoxia, and joint dysfunction. There are many places where muscles, tendons, nerves, and fascia can be stressed. These restrictions can occur by themselves or along with the subluxation complex or other joint fixations. A subluxation is a minor misalignment of the vertebrae, causing an irritation to a nerve, and usually causes the loss of normal function. The results are an interruption of communication from the brain to any cell, tissue, or organ in the body.
When trauma or injury occurs, from surgery, accidents, postural distortion or repetitive strain, the body's natural response is to form scar tissue. Scarring has a detrimental effect, causing tissues to change and adhere to themselves as well as to other related structures. These Adhesions occur as a result of the injuries and are responsible for multiple pains and discomfort.
Active Release Techniques are specific treatment methods used to remove these adhesions brought on by the injuries at virtually every part of the musculoskeletal system. In the past, soft-tissue care has meant drugs, heat, cold, rest and massage. These treatments usually do not effectively solve the problem long-term. ART treatment protocols effectively solve these problems by treating the injury at the root cause and effectively alleviating the problem.
Graston Technique
The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and Fascial Restrictions. The Technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.
Flexion Distraction
Flexion Distraction is a gentle Chiropractic adjusting technique used to repair herniated discs. Flexion Distraction is a safe alternative to back surgery for those 95% of patients whose conditions don't demand surgical intervention or back surgery. Flexion Distraction may help relieve pain from disc hernia, failed back surgery syndromes, leg pain, sciatica, neck pain, arm pain, ruptured discs, herniated discs, slipped discs, low back pain, facet syndrome, bulging discs, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, sprain/strain, disc prolapse, etc.
Rehabilitative Exercise
Weight training, exercise, and stretching techniques related to Chiropractic and physical therapy help support an active and healthy lifestyle.
Injury and trauma result from accidents, surgery, postural problems, repetitive strain and any other physically compromising situations. In order to get the most effective and efficient results for each patient, a custom tailored routine, incorporating in their normal everyday lifestyle. This optimizes the speed of rehabilitation and encourages a healthy lifestyle.
In order to achieve a desired result, the body needs to perform activities that it is not used to performing or not strong enough to perform. By targeting the weak areas, by both fitness and daily activity, the body will respond most rapidly and with the best results.
At New York Chiropractors, we specialize in helping patients recover from injury while continuing to progress in other aspects of fitness to achieve their goals. The benefits of this treatment method are two fold. One, it makes the therapy more effective, and two it requires less treatment and promotes quicker healing. This is extremely important when a person wants to live an active life style with no limitations. Additionally, dancers and athletes benefit greatly from these techniques since effective care enables them to return to work with a minimum of lost time.
Physical Modalities
Physical Modalities such as electric muscle stimulation, Russian stimulation, interferential current and ultrasound are passive treatments used to control pain, reduce inflammation, and increase circulation. |
